Cholo Word Of The Day - Simon
Some people have asked what a cholo is? I don't really know how to explain it. Just a chicano dude who identifies w/ the barrio. I guess if you're actually a cholo you probably have a different definition and might spit in my face if you saw me - or maybe, because we were neighbors, we'd hang out and laugh about stupid cholo stuff. Another definition.
A stereotypical cholo:

Meaning according to DT: Right on, yes, of course.
Used in a sentence:
"Oyes Flipper, vas a ir a el football game mañana, Simon que si?"

Gotta say, I haven't ever used any of your other cholo words...until now. Educated in wealthy schools in Meixco and the suburbs of Ohio, I am no Chola. Rarely use spanish, and am a snob at all costs. I use "simon" all the time. Maná, uses "simon" in their song Me Vale.

Hi, I'm new to blogs...thanks with the help on defining what a "cholo" and a "naco" are. I read somewhere else on the net that "naco" derives from the Indigenous people Totonacos and was used by the wealthy Mexican/Spanish to describe the nouveau riche of Mexico City or something like that. Anyway, I find it hurtful and offensive that this word finds its origins there, which I feel is probably true. But like all words it has evolved and I've seen used mostly to mean low-class person. Same thing with "cholo". A lot of non-Mexicans use it and it bugs the hell out of me because this used to insult us all. If you're a "cholo" and you're proud because it means something else to you that's fine. However, not all Mexicans are from East L.A. and that isn't how we'd describe ourselves...

Cholo has it's name in history. I, having been part of a would be teen-cholo group, took a class about Mexicans in the U.S. history class. The term cholo became popular aroung the time of the Bracerros during the great depression. It been a long time since I took the course. Just now that I am taking a trip down memory lane I came across this website. Ahhh the good ole Cholodays. You can take a cholo out of his/her home, but can't take the cholo out of the man/woman.

Just for info, in Panama cholo is used to say a that a person is not educated, so you would say,

But also in a nice way to talk about a person from the 'interior', often of indigenous origin

It can be said that a cholo is someone who dresses, speaks, and often thinks different. It also can be said that it is matter of how or where they live. I am in no way a chola, but I have known quite a few. But when a person has all of these qualities and vandalizes their own or someone elses neighboorhood, or bullies people around for the hell of it, they are like any other lowlife of another race. Latinos need to stop acting like they did in the 90's and progress as people. It is hard to be proud of where you come from when your neighboors write stupid gang acronymns on the walls. There is a issue with timing and the beginning of construction of disfavored redwhite&blue's center, one where this company looks bad.

in my mind i think of what i was and what i did im a veterano.
