Ojo: The "Cholo Word Of The Day" is simply for fun. This is not an academic exercise, therefore I do not spend much time checking for espelling or grammatical errors. Most of the words are not only used by "cholos," but by many people in S. Texas - and their usage can vary. c/s

Fideo for Lunch

UPDATE
I asked my mom about fideo and she said my grandmother used to make that for them when she was a kid in rural, rancho, Mexico. This is back in the 40's.

I had fideo for lunch and then I read this.

I used to get teased by friends sometimes because almost all the time we ate fideo at home. I didn't really care though since it's one of my favs. My mom makes it with pollo and papas.

My mother's claim to family fame is her delicious fideo and homemade tortillas ~ when we were poor and living on the "Northside" in Houston, she could feed her family of six for a couple of days on only a coupla dollars ~~ that wonderful little yellow box for a under a buck, and another buck for a coupla potatoes, some comino, a cube of bouillon, and frijoles. Ai, your post reminds me how much I miss home! Now I want Mami's arroz con leche, too!

My husband introduced me to fideo when we married 23 years ago and I still love it. Everyone at my job loves it when we have a 'potluck lunch'. I bring fideo and they fight over who takes the leftovers home. However, I make it with ground beef or pork sausage instead of chicken. also, Rotel really gives it a 'nice kick'...

Hey all you Fideo Lovers! I've always made Fideo for my family,my kids and I just love it!It is so simple and there are recipes out there that just aren't right.I can truly say I've never tasted a better one than the one I make! It's on the soupy side, not too much tomato sauce(too much overpowers the pasta taste),onions and garlic, cooked till slightly thickened.Goes great with a corn tortilla quesadilla or just alone, the Ultimate Mexican Comfort Food!Feel free to email me at Anaheimmom@aol.com for my recipe! You know what?I'm gonna make myself some right now,see what you did!
