Ojo: The "Cholo Word Of The Day" is simply for fun. This is not an academic exercise, therefore I do not spend much time checking for espelling or grammatical errors. Most of the words are not only used by "cholos," but by many people in S. Texas - and their usage can vary. c/s

Cholo Word Of The Day - Puñeta

I'm not sure of the exact defition of this word, but it's one that I used quite often. For some reason I used this a lot when I lived in Laredo. We used it to mean a couple of different things, none of which were pleasant. I called one of my old photographers - Chapa, from my reporting days, to confirm the meaning, and he just said, "ha, ha, no, eso esta medio gacho."

Meaning According To DT:
dick (but worse), asshole (but worse)

Used in a sentence:
"Oye Chinche, eres una pinche puñeta, por decirle lo que te dije."

"Nombre Pollo, no te enojes. Tiralo al leon, alcabo que no dice nada."

Translation according to DT:
"Hey Stink Bug, you're a loud mouth for repeating what I told you."

"No Long Neck young man (henche - pollo), don't worry about it, nothing will get out."

I had not heard puñeta before. I have heard puñal, which means homosexual. They might be related.

Puñeta comes from the word puño, which is fist. So, puñeta in Spain and various Caribbean countries it means to masturbate.
In Spain it can also mean "go to hell" as in váyase a hacer puñetas.
In Puerto Rico the main meaning is to masturbate.

In Puerto Rico we use "puñeta" as "damn", and it usually is an angry expression; it's like the upgrade for "carajo". You would say: "Estoy bien encojonao, puñeta". And we don't use puñeta much to mean masturbation, the vulgar expression for that is "paja", "hacerse una paja".

I am pretty sure that "Puñeta" means to jerk off... you know, play with yourself. jack off. spank the monkey, choke the chicken, beat the meat, yank the yak, wank off, whack off, flying solo, jack handy, phil, pocket pool, stroke the salami,

MASTURBATION, my friends.

"Tirar puñetas" is slang for jerking off. If you call someone a puñeta you are basically calling them a handful of spunk juice.

It definitely means to jerk off. I work in a kitchen with mexicans and dominicans and they use it to mean masturbation or just wasting time. As in:
Q: Where was Paco when we were busy working?
A: He was downstairs, making a puneta

In the Philippines, today, it's one of those curse words that has no specific meaning... it can be 'damn it!', 'a worthless person'.. but it does have roots from mastubation.. Another spanish word we use as curse word is 'leche'.. yep the milk... it has no specific meaning but we say it a lot :) ... its actually a reference to sperm.. sperm=milk=leche

I have also heard of puñetero saying it to a male or about a male and puñeta for female in the Philippines.
I think it means more than damn. It's a common swear when you're irritated with someone but I think it is one of those words that sounds worse when literally translated to English.

Hi folks. It's a combination of what most of you said. It really depends on `how' you use it.

It can mean:
1. Masturbate, masturbation, jerk off (hacer/me la puñeta or paja)
2. No jodas más puñeta, (don't f**k with me damn it)!
3. It is not strictly a Puerto Rican or Dominican word (whatever that means). It originally comes from Spain.
4. Puñetero, (asshole, jerkoff), etc.
5. It does come from Puño or fist, because you use your puño (fist or hand) to j/o. The person who identified it that way did it very well.
6. It has no relation whatsover to homosexuality. Both genders masturbate, so it applys to both.
So in essence, most of you identified the word pretty correctly

In the Philippines, Puñeta or Punyeta is as same as the word "puta" (Prostitute, bitch). Example. Puñeta ka!(You're a bitch!)

Sorry to disappoint you but cholos and Mexicans do say puñeta o puñetero and comes from masturbate or jerk off. And it is an awful word depending how is used.

Puñeta means jerk off, but also in Puerto Rico means like the ultimate curse word...like a big coño in spanish or fuck in english...in other words, if you hear a Puertorican said this word...live him or her along.

In Davao, city with the biggest population outside Metro Manila in the southernmost (southeast) Philippines, we have more spanish words in our dialect compared to anywhere in the north. About 60 percent spanish words in our dialect which is Davaoeño. As much as 80 percent spanish words in Zamboanga city in southwest Philippines. Their dialect there is chavacano. The country was a colony of Spain for close to 600 years but we all know here that we were ruled via Mexico. Most probably then that the meaning of the words we use would have more credence in Mexico. We use Puñeta and Puñatera, Puñemas, in the same frequency as Putang-ina (your mother's a whore), Leche, Tarantado, Hijo de Puta, Pitiling (embarassingly small dick), Gago, Gaga (ignorantly stupid).

Gaga has no bearing on Lady Gaga. I wonder why she had to use it when she has filipino friends in NewYork who would surely say !!!. Well, I must congratulate her for taming the meaning of gaga somewhat. I want to see how far she can go with in the Philippines. She was just here in Manila or I believe she still is. She won the hearts of so many here. She really knows how to make cariño, how to tease, and make the audience like her.
